Consulate of Sri Lanka in Adelaide organised a ceremony in commemoration of the 71st Independence Day of Sri Lanka on 2nd February 2019 at the Hectorville Catholic Community Hall, Hectorville.
The official ceremony began with singing of the both Australian and Sri Lankan national anthems by Sinhala Buddhist School and Muthuhara Adelaide Students.
Lighting of the traditional oil lamp followed multi-faith religious observances were conducted by the religious clergy, representing Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity.
Dr. Richard Harvey, Member of the South Australian House of Assembly represented the Premier of South Australia and number of other political dignitaries of South Australia, Mayors and City Councillors, Senior Government Officials, Community Leader were in attendance at the event.
The ceremony gave guests a glimpse of the Sri Lankan culture, complete with traditional Sri Lankan dances by students of Sihalakala Rangayathanaya, and a video of the country’s top scenic spots.
