About Venerable Ajahn Brahmali Thero
Ajahn Brahmali was born in Norway in 1964.  His interest in Buddhism and meditation started in his early 20’s after a visit to Japan. Having completed a Masters Degree in both Engineering and Finance, he renounced it all and began his Monastic training at Amaravati and Chithurst in England. Having heard of Ajahn Brahm, he traveled to Australia to train under him at  Bodhinyana Monastery in Serpentine, WA, and has lived there since 1994.  He ordained as a Bhikkhu with Ajahn Brahm as his preceptor in 1996. This is his 25th year as a Maha Thero, a fully ordained monk. He lives a very simple life in the tradition of the Forest Monks.

He was one of the founder members along with Ajahn Sujato of the Sutta Central an online library of the Dhamma in many different languages. He is one of the foremost authorities of the Pali language and the Suttas and travels widely conducting very inspiring meditation retreats, Sutta workshops in many countries such as Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.

His knowledge of Pali and the Suttas is impeccable.  Bhikkhu Bodhi who translated most of the Pali Canon in English for Wisdom Publications called him one of his major helpers for the recent translation of the “Numerical Discourse Of The Buddha”.  He has published many articles and books, one of which is “The Dependent Origination”.  Also, “The Authenticity of the Early Buddhist Texts” with the Buddhist Publication Society in collaboration with Ajahn Sujato.

The Sangha at BSWA and others often turn to him for clarification of the Vinaya and Sutta questions and is greatly valued for his Sutta and Pali classes. His clear and meaningful talks make the teachings of the Buddha easily accessible to all people of the world.
