The state government is directing people in 297 Adelaide suburbs not to move fruit outside of their home – including packing it in school lunch boxes – as SA battles a fruit fly outbreak.
The direction also applies to a large part of the Riverland.
More info and details about impacted locations is available at pir.sa.gov.au/biosecurity/fruit_fly_in_sa
Minister for Primary Industries David Basham has told FIVEaa Breakfast’s David & Will:
“We’re asking people to minimise the movement of fruit out of these outbreak zones.
“A rough guide is north of Cross Road, south of Paralowie, from the hills to the sea – that’s the patch we’re talking about…
“As a rule in that space we’re encouraging people definitely not to take fruit our of their backyards, make sure they dispose of that into their green bins if they’re not going to eat it and make sure the lid is shut.”
