NSW could face tighter shutdowns on restaurants and pubs, with Premier Gladys Berejiklian saying the state is at a critical point in the pandemic.
“We do have the chance to really get ahead of the virus, to control the spread if all of us take those extra steps this week,” she told reporters in Sydney.
“If we get through the next three or four weeks the way we have we will be able to have medium to long term surety that NSW can keep moving forward but if we slide backwards that means all of us will need to face situations we shouldn’t have to.”

Australia has recorded more than 11,880 cases of COVID-19, with 5942 in Victoria, 3399 in New South Wales, 1072 in Queensland, 444 in South Australia, 651 in Western Australia, 227 in Tasmania, 113 in the Australian Capital Territory and 32 in the Northern Territory.
Prime Minister Scott Morrison, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian will be speaking at separate press conferences at 11am.
Mr Andrews will address the spike in Victoria’s coronavirus cases; Gladys Berejiklian will give an update after speculation NSW could face tighter venue shutdowns; and Prime Minister Scott Morrison is expected to announce JobKeeper and JobSeeker changes.
