Thala 2018 Concert was successfully performed on 14 October 2018 at the Elder Hall – University of Adelaide, North Terrace, Adelaide. Thala 2018 was organised by Peradeniya Medical School Alumni Association.
Through the dimness of lights they emerged on to the stage, their feet hardly touching the ground as they swayed to the music. Their movements drew in the crowd with magnetic force. All eyes were glued to the dancers as they wove their spell around the audience. Channa-Upuli dance troupes have mesmerised Adelaide crowd with their vibrant display of the contemporary, traditional and modern fusions of dance and Bathiya and Santhush also entertained the audience.
Speaking to the audience, President of PMSAA, Dr Nayanananda Lekamge who also spearheads the event’s organising committee said that Channa was one among a few who brought a modern touch to traditional dancing without distorting its past techniques and took Sri Lankan traditional dance to the international stage. He also emphasised Bathiya and Santhush’s valuable contribution to the Sri Lankan music industry. Secretary of PMSAA, Dr Shantha Sooriyabandara also addressed the audience.
