Due to the concerning increase of COVID-19 cases in Victoria and following a number of recent cases in South Australia, Premier Steven Marshall has announced new restrictions to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus in South Australia.
From midnight on Tuesday 4th August 2020:
- Gatherings held at private homes will be reduced from a maximum of 50 people down to a maximum of 10 people
- Licensed venues such as bars, pubs, and restaurants will only be allowed to serve alcohol to patrons who are seated
- Weddings and Funerals will continue to have a maximum number of 100 people with contact tracing required
While it is disappointing that some restrictions have been reinstated, it is vital that South Australians follow these health measures and maintain physical distancing to avoid the severe restrictions and lock downs which are being seen in Victoria.
This is an important reminder that we must not become complacent and I encourage all community members and leaders to share this information with your friends, family, and community networks. We can all help to slow and stop the spread of COVID-19 in South Australia and we must continue to look after ourselves and others to help keep South Australia safe and strong.

The COVIDSafe app has been created by the Australian Department of Health to speed up contacting people exposed to coronavirus (COVID-19). This is a tool to help the Australian and State Government support and protect you, your friends and family. The COVIDSafe app is completely voluntary. Downloading the app is something you can do to protect you, your family and friends and save the lives of other Australians.
The COVIDSafe app is now available in Arabic, Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese. Translated information about the COVIDSafe app is also available on the Department of Health website including:
- Videos on how to download COVIDSafe
- User guide to download the COVIDSafe app
- Fact sheet on COVIDSafe
- COVIDSafe privacy policy
- General information on COVID-19
Over 6.5 million Australians have already downloaded the app and I encourage all community members to join in stopping the spread by downloading the COVIDSafe app today. The more Australians connect to the COVIDSafe app, the quicker we can find the virus.
The app can be downloaded from the Apple Store and Google Play.
