When can I leave my house?

South Australians are being urged to stay home unless they are accessing essential services or you are an essential worker.
One person per household will be able to leave their house to access groceries and other essential services once a day.
Medical suppliers and services will remain open. This includes mental health support.
People will also be able to get tested for COVID-19 during the lockdown.

Regional travel is not approved and if you are in a location at the commencement of the lockdown you are required to stay there.
Police said people who are currently on holiday should be making a decision on where they will spend the lockdown before midnight tonight.

Can I go outside for exercise?

For the next six days South Australians will not be permitted to leave the house for indoor or outdoor exercise.
It is not yet know if outdoor exercise will be permitted under the relaxed eight day period.

For what reason can I leave the house?

You can leave the house for the following reasons:
  • To go to work as an emergency services worker or to worker providing essential services
  • For agricultural work
  • To receive medical care including seeking COVID-19 testing
  • To obtain medical supplies
  • One person from the household once a day to attend supermarkets to obtain essential supplies
  • Organised end of life visits
  • In an emergency situation.

What is an essential worker?

The South Australian government has not explicitly stated who is considered an essential worker.
However, it’s likely industries considered essential in Victoria’s lockdown would also be listed as vital in South Australia.
These included doctors, nurses, pharmacists, supermarket workers and factory workers.

What businesses in SA will be closed?

The following businesses will CLOSE:
  • Takeaway food services
  • Shops (excluding essential food services)
  • Universities and tertiary education facilities
  • Pubs/restaurants/café/food courts
  • Elective surgery/ except cancer
  • Open inspections and auctions
  • Fly in fly out worker
  • Aged care and disability facilities will go into lockdown
  • Construction industry
  • Holiday homes and other holiday accommodation and no further bookings
  • Wedding and funerals cancelled and banned
  • Outdoor sport/fitness/exercise not permitted
  • Regional travel not permitted

Will planned holidays, wedding and funerals go ahead?

No, holiday travel will not be permitted and properties won’t be available to rent.
Weddings and funerals have also been banned for six days.

Can I still travel interstate?

Airports will remain open but South Australians are being urged to not travel interstate for the next 14 days.
People from Adelaide are not allowed to travel to Queensland.
WA, NT and Tasmania have tighten borders and imposed quarantine on SA travellers.
Victoria has not closed the border but travellers from Adelaide will be required to take a COVID-19 test and quarantine upon arrival.
New South Wales had not imposed a restriction before lockdowns were announced but Premier Gladys Berejiklian advised SA travellers to delay for a few days.

Where do I have to wear a mask?

Masks have been made mandatory in South Australia in all areas when outside the home.

How will the restrictions be enforced?

Police say they will work with the community during the lockdown but will take action against people who are disobeying the restrictions.
