On August 31, 2024, the Australia-Sri Lanka Association (ASLA) hosted a spectacular Golden Jubilee dinner dance at Marche Club, Paradise, Adelaide. The evening was a vibrant celebration, brimming with colorful festivities and entertainment.

We were privileged to welcome distinguished guests, including Hon. Zoe Bettison, Minister for Multicultural Affairs; Mr. Matthew Morozzi, Advisor to the Minister; Hon. Jing Lee, Deputy Leader of the Opposition; and Mr. Eddie, alongside ASLA’s founding members, pioneers, and their families. The event also saw the participation of past and present ASLA members, representatives from Sri Lankan-based organizations, and other multicultural groups, such as the Australian Migrant Resource Center and the African community.

A highlight of the evening was Hon. Zoe Bettison’s acknowledgment of ASLA’s significant contributions to the multicultural community. President Nishani Seneviratne was honored to receive a special gift of appreciation from the Minister on behalf of ASLA.

Guests indulged in a sumptuous feast catered by Anthony Caterers, while The House of the Bride dazzled with their breathtaking decorations. The ASLA 50th Anniversary cake, crafted by Marvel Cakes & Bakes, was a centerpiece of the celebration, complemented by captivating lighting from Kasun.

Legendary performer Corrine Almeda, backed by the band ASHRA, delivered unforgettable music, and the Sabor Latino Dance Studio wowed the audience with a stunning performance. Photography was expertly managed by Sajith Dassanayake, with video coverage provided by Ceyflix TV.

The excitement continued with the cutting of the 50th Jubilee cake and a thrilling raffle, featuring valuable prizes, including a return ticket to Sri Lanka, generously sponsored by SriLankan Airlines. The dance floor was alive with energy, as Corrine Almeda kept everyone moving, including the Minister!

In celebration of our 50th year, we have chosen The Institute of Mental Health in Sri Lanka as our charity, recognizing this year as World Suicide Prevention Year to promote mental health awareness for young adults.

President extends her deepest gratitude to all our guests, volunteers, sponsors, the venue management, and her dedicated committee. Here’s to celebrating our past achievements and looking forward to many more years of success for ASLA!
