Government Medical Officers’ Association (GMOA) President Dr. Anuruddha Padeniya is tipped to be appointed as Secretary to the Health Ministry, an official said.

GMOA Secretary Dr. Haritha Aluthge told Daily Mirror that a proposal had come from the government that Dr. Padeniya was to be appointed Secretary to the Health Ministry. He said this was conveyed to the GMOA over the weekend.

“Dr. Padeniya has been proposed both by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. We are highly pleased with Dr. Padeniya being proposed to be appointed to the said post. We are of the opinion that Dr. Padeniya is more than eligible to this responsible position. As President Rajapaksa pronounced in election rallies that professionals would be appointed to State-owned enterprises and statutory bodies, we think it is an appropriate decision,” he said.

He said they would render their fullest support to Dr. Padeniya in the event of him being appointed as Health Ministry Secretary.

“Dr. Padeniya will lose all his positions including the membership and chairmanship of GMOA once he is appointed as Health Ministry Secretary,” he said. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
